The “B-owl” - animal addition at BUSSE

Since the beginning of this year, we have been increasingly wondering about relatively large bird droppings in one of our visitor parking lots, behind which there is a relatively tall poplar tree. On closer inspection, the droppings on the ground pointed to a bird of prey or an owl.

When we carefully peered into the tree with a ladder, we were actually able to discover a pair of owls that had settled down to nest in the tree. Initially affectionately referred to as the “B-owl” (BUSSE-owl), it quickly became clear through image recognition and internet research that it was a long-eared owl.

According to NABU, "the long-eared owl is the most common owl species in our country alongside the tawny owl. It likes to live in forests that are close to open areas. It tends to avoid the inner areas of forests as it competes with the stronger tawny owl. Its feathered ears are distinctive, although it can also put them on. The owl is strictly nocturnal and lives a rather secretive life, although it can sometimes be observed at its communal roost in winter."

We are delighted to have this animal addition to our company premises - even if this one visitor parking space can now only be used to a limited extent, as the cars parked there always require a lot of exterior cleaning ;o)
